Sports Medicine

Meridian Orthopaedics physicians have been selected as the team physicians for sports medicine and orthopaedics at Mississippi State University and many local school athletic programs. You will often see them on the sidelines or on the field evaluating athletes, assessing injuries, and determining whether it is safe for an athlete to return to the game.

Our specially trained Orthopaedic Surgeons, Sports Medicine Specialists, Spine Surgeons, and Pain Management Specialists provide the highest-quality care to athletes of all kinds for every sports injury. At every level, from high school to collegiate to recreational, our goal is to help all athletes get back into the game and compete at their highest potential. Our team will work with you every step of the way and create personalized treatment plans tailored to your unique needs. Our full scope of services includes injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up evaluations; sports testing; and sports training.

Our sports medicine team of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Physical Therapists, and Nurse Practitioners provides comprehensive care to each patient. A majority of our physicians, therapists, and assistants are athletes who have experienced sports injuries and undergone rehabilitation. Drawing on their personal experience, they can relate to each patient and understand the unique challenges athletes face during injury and rehabilitation. They can also balance athletes’ desire to return to their sport with the need for rest, recovery, and restart activities.

Our Clinic

Our clinic in Meridian features advanced equipment to help patients achieve their goals and return to their sport. Using a variety of specialized therapy techniques helps athletes restore mobility, increase flexibility, and regain strength.

  • Aquatic Therapy: Our HydroWorx pool features an underwater treadmill and multiple cameras. This type of therapy effectively reduces body weight, while the water exercises promote healing and strengthen the muscles.
  • Dry Needling: Pain and tension are relieved by inserting a very fine needle into the skin and muscle to release tension.
  • McKenzie Method: Therapists receive specialized training in this assessment and treatment system, which involves moving the body into specific positions or having patients perform specific movements to help reduce and manage pain.
  • Graston Technique: Stretch and relax muscles with specialty instruments that massage areas around an injury.
  • Kinesio Taping Method: Support and stabilize muscles and joints without limiting motion through a specialized taping technique. This taping method also helps alleviate pain and promotes lymphatic drainage.
  • Blood Flow Restriction Therapy: Reduces stress on the injured area while strengthening muscles with a specialized cuff that applies external pressure during exercise and movement.
  • Hand Therapy: Our team of therapists includes two Certified Hand Therapists who are specially trained to help you regain your strength and dexterity and maximize your function.
  • Biodex Machine: We can measure muscle strength and recovery progress with a computerized fitness machine. It can be used for training or return-to-sport testing.
  • Mulligan Concept/Mobilization with Movement: Each of our therapists has received specialized training in the Mulligan Concept. This manual therapy helps restore functional movement by combining therapist-applied force with patient-generated movement.
